Manfred Bockelmann exhibits

Vernissage in the Mesnerhaus

On August 15, the Mesnerhaus will open its doors for a special vernissage: Manfred Bockelmann, an outstanding Austrian artist, will exhibit his latest works. Bockelmann, born in Klagenfurt in 1943, has had an impressive career that has taken him from Graz via Munich to his current place of work.

A life for the arts

Manfred Bockelmann began his artistic training at the HTBLA in Graz, where he specialized in fresco, photography and graphics. He has lived and worked in Munich since 1966. He started out there as a photographer, but turned to painting in 1970. After the death of his father, he took over the property on the Magdalensberg in 1984, which connected him even more strongly with his homeland of Carinthia.

A unique artistic voice

Manfred Bockelmann’s works stand out from those of many other Austrian painters. He deliberately refrains from denouncing social grievances or reflecting historical events in his art. Instead, he chooses themes that appeal to him personally and express a deeper longing. His paintings are not social commentaries, but expressions of inner peace and aesthetic clarity.

The landscape as a central element

Bockelmann draws inspiration for his art from the landscape of Carinthia, where he grew up. Nature is the dominant element in his work. In his characteristic, subtle style, he superimposes horizons and layers of color in translucent oil painting. This technique allows the viewer to sense the layering of landscapes and geological formations. In abstract forms, he reduces what has happened and leaves the associations to the viewer’s imagination.
